Los primeros asentamientos descubiertos en el territorio de Bocairent pertenecen al Neolítico. La ciudad adquirió su aspecto actual durante el reinado de los invasores moros aquí durante los siglos VIII-XIII.Debido a su rica historia, Bocairent es el hogar de muchos lugares de interés histórico, los más famosos son las cuevas moras y el casco antiguo de la ciudad.

This chronicle is for all those who see in the Mediterranean something more than the coast, for those who believe that the rural can also be found in the interior of the Valencian Community. In the heart of the Sierra de Mariola Natural Park (Alicante) is Bocairent, a stone village, high, bucolic, full of unusual places, in the Vall d’Albaida, which lovers of this region call the Valencian Tuscany.
The first time I saw Bocairent, on a childhood excursion, it was snowing. My first snowy landscape. I thought I was far away from my hometown, -snow was something from other latitudes, from other geography-, but no: it was barely an hour away from Valencia. If you have come this far, to this region of Alicante, is that you do not want sidewalks. So, get lost. If not, you better not go. Bocairent is intricate, a village won to the rock and each alley holds a surprise. It was populated by Berbers, Arabs, Christians and all that weight has managed to stay in the nooks and crannies.
In 2008, in the middle of the rehabilitation of the oldest part of the village, some medieval houses were discovered that can be visited and that, the locals told us, show what the houses were like at the beginning of industrialization. The feverish textile era of the area is in these streets. Along with this compendium of hidden streets there are three other places in the village where you have to stop:

In the heart of the Sierra de Mariola, declared a natural park since 2002, this town breathes history on all four sides. The current settlement arose in the Muslim period but remains of human settlements from the Neolithic and Iberians have been found, so walking through the old town is a history lesson.
So while we enjoy learning from the multitude of information panels that are all over the town the kids are amazed inventing stories of dragons and knights, at least that’s what J did all day!
Located on the outskirts of the village (don’t worry, there are signs everywhere and you can access walking from the main square) this set of artificial caves with holes in the shape of windows will be an adventure for the most daring of the family.
