Excursión a la estrella y mazatán

First we will arrive at the capital of fresh cheese par excellence: Mazatán. We will learn all the ins and outs of this dairy product from traditional cheese makers and we will have the opportunity to taste this regional delicacy. In addition, we will stroll through its main square while we learn about its Jesuit past, see the kiosk, the church of Guadalupe and the cheese monument. You will also have half an hour of free time for breakfast.
We will then stroll through the center of town and enjoy a traditional Mexican lunch. With our batteries recharged, we can relax in the Yaquil River and take a dip. If you wish, you can take a kayak tour for an hour and a quarter.
The next day, we will enjoy a restorative breakfast and, at 7:00 a.m., we will set out on a kayak trip down the Yaquil River to Soyopa, a total of six hours! During the trip we will enjoy the wheat, corn and rice crops in the river valley.

Departure from Hermosillo. We will make a brief stop in the capital of fresh cheese, Mazatán, where we will be able to taste this regional product. Take a picture at the cheese monument and take a tour of the main square and visit the Guadalupe Parish Church. We will continue our tour to the La Estrella Community where we will find the majestic Plutarco Elias Calles Dam, generator of electricity for the CFE. We will check in at the Gena Hotel and Restaurant, and then we will enjoy a delicious carne asada and a conviviality. Our second day will begin with breakfast at Restaurant Gena and we will leave for the kayak departure point to have fun touring the Yaqui River from the community of La Estrella to the municipality of Soyopa (25 km, 6 hours approx.). Arriving to Soyopa we will have a lunch and then we will return to Hermosillo to finish the experience. Don’t miss it!

El parque fue designado originalmente en 1938 con 1,100 hectáreas, pero el crecimiento de la ciudad lo ha invadido y lo ha dejado con menos de 200 hectáreas. El sitio lleva el nombre de la Hacienda de la Estrella de la época colonial, ubicada en las faldas del cerro.
Cultura: Azteca. Período: 900 – 1521. Las faldas del cerro donde se ubicaba la hacienda habían sido habitadas desde los primeros tiempos, y el asentamiento creció en importancia como el sitio de las ceremonias del Fuego Nuevo, que se creía revivía el sol al final del ciclo. Se celebraba cada 52 años, con ceremonias celebradas en 1351, 1403, 1455 y 1507. La caída de Tenochtitlan impidió la celebración del quinto evento.
¿Sabías que? Los mexicas concebían el universo como una gran flor con cuatro pétalos que representaban los puntos cardinales, mientras que en el centro de la flor se encontraba la gran Tenochtitlan (actual Ciudad de México). Para evitar la «muerte del Sol», que traería la oscuridad total al universo, el sacerdocio realizaba una ceremonia del Fuego Nuevo cada 52 años, en el momento en que coincidían el inicio de los años solar y lunar. Las investigaciones han revelado que los colhua fueron los primeros en utilizar la cima del cerro para realizar la ceremonia del «toxiuhmopolli» o Fuego Nuevo.
