El Huancabamba discurre por cañones escarpados en parte de su curso y con montañas a ambos lados que se elevan a más de 3.000 metros de altura. Algunos kilómetros del río por encima de Pozuzo se encuentran dentro del Parque Nacional Yanachaga-Chemillén[4]. El río se encuentra en la zona ecológica de los Yungas peruanos, o Ceja de Selva, la zona de transición entre las selvas bajas de la cuenca amazónica y la sierra andina[5].
El estrecho valle del Huancabamba fue colonizado por primera vez por europeos en el siglo XIX por colonos de Austria y Alemania. Antes de la llegada de los europeos, la zona de Huancabamba estaba habitada por el pueblo Yanesha (Amuesa)[7].

To travel to Pozuzo from Lima you must take a bus to Oxapampa. The bus ticket from Lima to Oxapampa takes about 10 hours and you can find tickets from S/50. Once you arrive at the Oxapampa terminal, you must take a bus from the Pampón Verde terminal to Pozuzo. This second trip will take you about 2 and a half hours and will cost you S/20.
A visit to the San Jose de Pozuzo church is also a must. It was built in 1875 by the first settlers. Some of its sculptures are made of wood, as well as the altar of the Virgin, and it has two neoclassical stained glass windows. It is of great importance the mass to San José, patron saint of this town, every March 19.
A place that seems to come out of a fairy tale is the Emperor William I bridge, a path surrounded by nature located on the Huacabamba River, whose first construction dates back to 1877. Its route has as its arrival point a viewpoint from where you can see the city.
These pools are located in Bajo Chancarizo, 10 kilometers from the center of town and 30 minutes by car. Its waters are turquoise and are composed of sulfur and salt, so it is said that they have healing properties.
